Dear Coaches and Families,
We here at Wilmington Little League have been monitoring the progress of Hurricane Matthew as all of you have been doing the same. With the latest projected track still showing its closest pass to the Cape Fear Area being roughly 75-100 miles south of Wilmington we can still expect heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Because of this and the fact that our fields are already saturated due to the large amount of rain we received in late August and September, all four fields will be closed beginning today (Friday October 7th ) and will remain closed at least through Sunday. This means there is to be no team practice, or individual practice including batting, pitching, or fielding. We hope for the best case scenario that conditions will clear Sunday afternoon and fields can be worked and ready to play Monday night, but this remains to be seen. We will update you Monday as far as game status, so please make sure you check your email.
Please take this time to make sure you and your families are safe and prepared to face whatever Matthew decides to dish out to us. We are strong and many have been through numerous storms in the past. The key is to honor all warnings and instructions that will aid in keeping you and your family safe. As the various news coverages have been saying all along “We can rebuild structures. We can’t rebuild a life”.
Stay safe everyone and we will be in touch soon.
